MORE THAN BOOKS AND BUILDINGS

Who we are

The Library Foundation enhances Multnomah County Library’s leadership, innovation and reach by helping the library address emerging community needs with private support. Our supporters have helped the library buy books that capture hearts and minds and reach tens of thousands of children and families at risk of low literacy.

Last year, more than 200,000 people were reached with books and programs made possible by gifts, large and small, to The Library Foundation. Our supporters helped the library expand 15 programs and initiatives and make more than 102,000 books available.

The Library Foundation does not raise money for day-to-day library operations. Instead, the foundation and library work together, in a strong partnership, to determine where private funds will have the greatest impact on children and adults. Our work shows just how much a small nonprofit can accomplish in partnership with a great public library.

Gifts to The Library Foundation help reluctant readers become passionate about reading. Early literacy programs keep kids from falling behind in school.

PARENT OF A SUMMER READING PARTICIPANT

“Her reading level skyrocketed in just one summer. After struggling with reading for years, she finished an entire chapter series on her own.”
