Library selected for Give!Guide

WWeekNovember 11, 2009 - Through its annual Give!Guide, Willamette Week is encouraging its readers to support The Library Foundation’s work for Multnomah County Library this holiday season. A select group of nonprofits are chosen each year. Donations support the library’s programs, reaching thousands of children and adults across the community.

As a small, nimble non-profit, The Library Foundation is dedicated to enhancing Multnomah County Library’s leadership, innovation and reach. Last year, the foundation helped the library reach over 150,000 children and adults, more than any other literacy effort in Oregon. Multnomah County Library holds a unique position among libraries across the nation for record-breaking usage, innovative programs and progressive approaches to emerging problems and trends. Fitting with Portland’s ethos, the library wins awards every year for leadership, creativity and cost efficiency. With The Library Foundation’s help, the library’s literacy programs are changing the future for thousands of at-risk children. The unemployed are able to access the Internet and one-on-one help from librarians. And families struggling to get by are enjoying free educational, arts and cultural activities.

Willamette Week will be providing approximately $100,000 worth of incentives to people who give.

UPDATE, January 2010: Willamette Week's Give!Guide had designated nine categories, from health and education to social change. At final tally, The Library Foundation was the second highest recipient among the 14 organizations in the Community category, with gifts of $15,086. Thank you, library lovers!
