Librarian is two-time Oregon Book Award winner

September 19, 2008 - Multnomah County Library's Teen Services Specialist Sara Ryan recently won an Oregon Book Award in the young adult fiction category for The Rules for Hearts. Described by School Library Journal as celebrating "the process of becoming an adult without providing any easy answers," The Rules for Hearts is a companion to Ryan's previous novel, Empress of the World, also an Oregon Book Award winner.

Sara also won the 2008 Multnomah County youth champion award for dedicating her career at Multnomah County Library to infusing the voices of youth in the delivery of library services. She worked to create voting positions for youth on the Library Advisory Board and helped create systems of support for the Board's youth members. Sara also piloted teen advisory councils for individual branch libraries and now has a network of teen advisory councils for most neighborhood branches throughout the system.
